Airdrie is one of the safest cities in Alberta, with crime rates consistently below the national average. While violent crime overall remains low, property crime—such as theft, vandalism, and break-ins—is a more common concern for residents. However, one growing issue that cannot be ignored is the rise in domestic violence cases. This is a concerning trend that requires urgent attention, as it affects the well-being of individuals and families across our community. And another reason why we need to have a local hospital with all of its programs and supports.
Keeping our city safe requires a proactive, community-focused approach that goes beyond policing and enforcement. It’s about fostering a strong sense of community, addressing root causes of crime, and ensuring residents feel secure in their homes and neighbourhoods. As a city council member, I will advocate for strengthening community policing efforts and increasing awareness of crime prevention programs. Airdrie already has great tools, such as the online crime reporting system and the crime map, but we can do more to ensure residents are engaged in keeping their neighbourhoods safe. I want to see increased collaboration between local law enforcement, community groups, and residents to create a stronger, more connected approach to crime prevention.
Beyond policing, I believe in tackling crime at its roots. Addressing socioeconomic factors—such as employment opportunities, youth engagement programs, and mental health support—can help reduce the risk of crime in the long term. I will push for more community development initiatives that provide resources for families, create positive outlets for youth, and support those struggling with mental health and substance abuse. Additionally, addressing domestic violence requires increased support for crisis services, shelters, and counseling programs to ensure that survivors have access to the help they need.
Safety is about more than just statistics—it’s about how people feel in their city. No one should feel unsafe in their own home. I am committed to ensuring Airdrie remains one of the safest and most secure communities in Alberta through proactive leadership, smart policy-making, and strong community engagement.
